The Judith Neilson Institute for Journalism and Ideas has extended its grants to support COVID-related journalism initiatives during the next few months.

So far, 20 grants have supported more than 60 freelancers and casual contributors to a wide range of media, large and small, and across all formats and subject matter. Additional grants have funded the newsroom serving Australia's network of 450 community radio stations as well as RMIT ABC Fact Check in its efforts to tackle misinformation about the pandemic.

Grants are used in a variety of ways - including commissioning specific articles and engaging freelancers to provide editorial support to newsrooms - and the Institute says it will continue to award grants on a rolling basis.

Grant recipients have now included: The Conversation; The Guardian Australia; Have a Go News in Western Australia; Inside Story; InDaily in South Australia; The Saturday Paper; Justinian and The Gazette of Law and Journalism; The Advertiser; The Local in Victoria's Central Highlands; InQueensland; Crikey; Croakey; Limelight Magazine; The Courier Mail; The Australian (for regional photojournalism); News Queensland (to provide freelance support for community newspapers in Queensland and northern NSW); ArtsHub; Radio 2SER; The New Daily; and The Koori Mail.
