Single-width expansion includes closed-loop colour

A three-stage press installation at Stuart Web in Florida has transformed the commercial printer's single-width press, virtually without upsetting production.

Three DGM430 towers and splicers have been installed by ImPressions Worldwide, replacing single-colour units.

Vice president Kevin Hawken describes the process as an arduous three-month endeavour, but says "it is great to realise the breadth of this expansion".

In the second stage, the towers were equipped with new Perretta remote ink fountains, and finally some existing automation was moved to make way for new DCOS closed loop density and press controls.

The end result is a fully-automated press with 12 towers and three folders. Four towers have closed loop density controls as well as remote inking and closed loop register.
