Roundtable discusses fair shares for media, tech giants

Executives from Nine and News Corp in Australia will join those from France, the US and UK in an online international roundtable next month.

Taking part from Australia in the event on November 5-6 are Nine Australia chief digital and publishing officer Chris Janz and News Corp Australia head of policy Georgia-Kate Schubert.

Others taking part are Pierre Louette (chairman and chief executive of Group Les Echos - Le Parisien, and president Alliance de la Presse d'Information Générale, France); Johnny Ryan (senior fellow of the Irish Council for Civil Liberties, and senior fellow at the Open Markets Institute, Ireland USA); Robin Berjon (vice president for data governance at the New York Times, USA); Aram Zucker-Scharf (ad engineering director for research, at the Washington Post); David Chavern (president and chief executive of News Media Alliance, USA); and Ramón Alona Aranegui (director general AMI Asociacion do Medios de Información, Spain).

Speakers over two three-hour sessions will call on their firsthand experience to discuss how platforms and news media could share fair value from digital content, ads and data.

The virtual event on November 5-6, organised by WAN-Ifra in partnership with the French Alliance of News Publishers, promises a global update on the intricate relationship between news publishers and platforms and discuss how platforms and news media can share fair value.

WAN-Ifra executive director for media policy Elena Perotti says speakers will explore the different answers being brought internationally to reach a fair distribution of value between news media and global tech platforms, analysing the three main revenue drivers of content distribution, advertising and data.
