Two global webcasts - one on Singapore time discussing the pandemic, youth and the media - will celebrate Monday's World News Day.
Warren Fernandez, president of the World Editors Forum and editor-in-chief of the Straits Times, says "At a time when so much has been turned on its head, this much has become clear: Real news matters. The truth matters. Objectivity matters. Balance and fairness matter. In short, quality journalism matters."
The critical role that journalism and professional newsrooms play in helping citizens make sense of the world is the message behind Monday's World News Day.
Driven by the Canadian Journalism Foundation and the World Editors Forum, World News Day is being marked in more than 150 newsrooms across the globe.
Editors are urged to share their best journalism using social media hashtags #WorldNewsDay and #JournalismMatters.
Two op-ed pieces are being made available for publication on Monday, one by Fernandez and one by David Walmsley, editor in chief of the Globe and Mail in Canada. Download here.
