Digital questions answered in New Delhi next week

The Wire founding editor Siddharth Varadajan is among the latest additions to the programme for WAN-Ifra's Digital Media India event next week.

Varadajan (pictured) will discuss leading questions on digital journalism - who can play, who will pay, and how you sustain digital journalism - in an address on Wednesday (February 19).

Opening the event is Juan Senor's popular keynote, introducing "14 new business models and one single strategy, how to drive our business to profitability". If you haven't heard the president of UK-based Innovation Media Consulting Group, make sure you catch this opportunity.

The programme continues with a review of digital advertising trends from Times Internet chief operating officer Puneet Gupt, Cybermedia executive director Dhaval Gupta on programmatic advertising, and DAN Performance Group chief executive Vivek Bhargava.

After a Quintype-sponsored networking lunch, The Economist's "chief customer journey officer" Iain Noakes is over from the UK to talk about the publisher's reader-first product strategy, while Google's Rohan Tiwary will talk about "building sustainable business for journalism through technology and innovation".

The day will conclude with presentation of this year's South Asian Digital Media Awards.

After Siddharth Varadarajan's opener on Wednesday, the second day's programme continues with BBC India's head of Indian languages Rupa Jha on creating video content, and Republic TV digital revenue head Varun Mohan on the opportunities and threats in OTT.

Facebook's Trushar Barot follows this with a discussion of video best practices for news publishers/ Turning to technology, Ajay Shrivatsava - HT Media's chief technology officer - talks technology for digital transformation, and Deepit Purkayastha introduces Inshorts, a data centre set up by publishers use machine learning to optimise content, of which he is co-founder.

CNN Digital Worldwide's Hong Kong-based Asia director Brett McKeehan will talk about driving change in the newsroom, with Brihathi Cherukuri from start-up ETV Bharat - which won the best digital news start-up category in last year's South Asian Digital Media Awards - contributing inspiring lessons on cultivating a culture of innovation in newsroom.

Finally, Quintillion Media co-founder Ritu Kapur chairs a discussion among South Asian editors and chief executives on regional challenges and the future of media business in South Asia. She is joined by Network18 digital chief executive abd corporate strategy president Puneet Singhvi and chief executive of The Hindu Navaneeth L.
