Webs dusted off to keep printheads in top order

Hunkeler has introduced a non-contact system for "de-dusting' paper webs prior to printing on an inkjet press.

The PEM module was included in a Canon Océ Prostream press running at the recent Innovationdays event in Lucerne. It removes dust webs without any contact, filtering and recycling the air.

Paper dust contaminates print heads in inkjet web presses, affecting print quality. Paper is guided through the PEM module at up to 300 metres a minute, with dust particles "completely removed".

Hunkeler says the non-contact system has two advantages: the web is treated with care, and dust particles are completely removed with no risk of residues getting stuck in a brush and falling back onto the web.

Two versions address web widths up to 570 mm and up to 770 mm. The PEM can be a standalone component or as a compact unit (pictured) integrated into the unwind module.
