Two Indian book printers are broadening their horizons following upgrades to their Manugraph and Harris presses.

At SAP Print Solutions in Mumbai, QI Press Controls has installed two mRC-3D cameras for colour register and cut-off control on a Manugraph Cityline following "positive experience" on a Harris NCH 400. SAP managing director Santosh Bamne says the company - which previously focussed on book and commercial printing - is now expanding in the web-offset market.

"Because we're still new on the web-offset market, we wanted to offer a better quality at a competitive price," he says. "The goals we set ourselves with respect to savings in waste, precision of the final product and less dependency on personnel have all been attained". Satisfaction has led to a new order for QI's mRC-3D for colour register on the NCH400.

At Sahitya Mudranalaya in Ahmedabad, two cameras have been installed on a Harris NC400B book press for register and cut-off control, "improving the quality of our printing enormously".

Greater consistency in cut-off accuracy has been accompanied by considerable savings in waste, especially during splice and speed changes.
