Herald NZ's 'most read' but where's Stuff

Three-quarters of all New Zealanders read newspapers according to new Roy Morgan readership results.

The figures show more than three million New Zealanders aged 14+ (76.5 per cent) now read or access newspapers in an average seven-day period via print or online platforms. About two-thirds of that number - nearly 2.1 million - read magazines, whether in print or online.

The figures have the New Zealand Herald as the country's most-read daily newspaper - with a total cross-platform audience of 1.81 million, down 41,000 on a year ago - with the Stuff's Dominion Post and (Christchurch) Press in second and third positions, although the figures do not aggregate Stuff's national readership online.

Mailed-out driving magazine AA Directions is again the country's most widely-read magazine, with an average readership of 482,000.

The figures come from Roy Morgan New Zealand Single Source survey of 6,547 New Zealanders aged 14+ over the 12 months to December 2019.
