Holiday dedication keeps press switchover on schedule

As one door closes in Oregon, USA, another is opening with a press installation at Pamplin Media's Central Oregonian.

A newly-installed 13-unit Goss Community SSC went on edition on December 1, and will print not only the Prineville bi-weekly Central Oregonian, but also the daily Bend Bulletin under a new contract following closure of publisher EO Media's Bend printsite.

With upgrades to the SSC press, the Pamplin site will go from a four-day work week to seven day, with capacity to print 16-page broadsheets with 12 pages in full colour.

Tom Loesch, whose company ImPressions Worldwide supplied and installed the press, says they worked with both companies to deliver the best solutions for their merging needs. The press will also facilitate additional commercial print products for the Bulletin.

President and publisher of Pamplin Media Group Mark Garber said it had been a difficult job to get the press up and running in such a short period of time. "Both ImPressions' and our teams have shown extraordinary dedication."

Loesch says project planning had to be adjusted "on the fly" with teams working through the holiday, and test runs "basically live jobs".

He especially praised Scott Porter in Prineville and Steve Salvino for their commitment.
