German press maker manroland Goss has bought the Thallo web-offset packaging press technology from Contiweb.

The deal includes all the intellectual property rights, and will see Contiweb sharpen its focus on auxiliary systems for web-offset and digital printing.

manroland Goss chief executive Franz Kriechbaum says the Thallo press will "strengthen our footprint" in the growth packaging market, standing next to the manroland's own Varioman packaging solution.

"Thallo customers, existing and new ones, will benefit from decades of web-offset expertise and the global sales and service organisation of manroland Goss," the company says.

Contiweb chief executive Rutger Janssen and Sander Koster of H2 Equity Partners said manroland Goss represented "the type of 'best owner' for the product we were looking for".

manroland Goss has also entered into a letter of intent with DG Press Services to collaborate on manufacturing and project execution of Thallo presses.

Then owner American Industrial Partners sold Contiweb last year after splitting it from Goss International, ahead of the sale to manroland Web Systems. Goss had acquired the Thallo press system for flexibles in May 2016.
