Former sheetfed printer Indonesia Printer in Jakarta has installed a second web press to complement the heatset web installed earlier this year.

A coldset Community SSC with one four-colour tower and a 546 mm cut-off joins the recently-commissioned Goss M-600.

A commercial contract printer the company produces a range of printed products including annual reports, brochures, coffee-table books, greeting cards, general books and posters. It also prints more than 60 high-quality magazines for the local market including ‘Cosmopolitan’, ‘Elle, ‘FHM’, ‘Bazaar’, ‘Indonesia Tatler’ and ‘Prestige’.

Originally, the Community SSC had been chosen to print books and to expand the company’s portfolio to include tabloid-format publications and supermarket flyers and inserts, but quality is such that other opportunities are being considered.

“This company will always remain focused on the future – it is our greatest service to our customers to anticipate their needs and go beyond all their expectations,” says founder and president Welly Bolung.

“This is why we made the move into web printing and why we have followed that decision with the installation of the Community press. The new capabilities have attracted new customers both from the domestic market and internationally, and our output has already doubled since installing web capacity this year.

“Web printing will continue to be an essential contributor to the development of publication printing in the future.”

Tigran Adiwirya of local Goss agent Web Sistim Servis says Bolung is widely credited as a visionary and innovator in the Indonesian market, having pioneered many technologies including CTP and digital offset printing: “Indonesia Printer is not a company that follows trends, it leads the market.

“Indonesia Printer is investing in higher capacity,” he says. “They can see the opportunities presenting as the range of tastes and interests in the Indonesian market continues to grow and diversify.”

Established in 1983 with only one secondhand single-colour sheetfed press producing simple information booklets, Indonesia Printer now employs approximately 500 full-time staff and operates 17 presses. Recent developments have included speciality operations for double-loop wire binding and the establishment of Karina Envelope to complement its stationery division. Its collection of international awards include ‘best printer’ accolade from Conqueror Conquest, UK and a gold medal at the Asia Print Awards in Singapore.
