Kevin Rudd's petition calling for a royal commission into media diversity - promoted under the #MurdochRoyalCommission hashtag - has been tabled in the Australian parliament.
Labor MP Andrew Leigh (pictured) submitted a printout of the petition, signed by more than 500,000 people, the most ever for an electronic petition.
Only two conventional petitions - one asking for funding for community pharmacies in 2014 signed by 1.2 million people, and another wanting a limit on beer price hikes in 2000, signed by almost 800,000 - have garnered more.
Leigh said the media in Australia was "shrinking and extremely concentrated", with fewer journalists and more than 20 "news deserts". No mention of Rupert Murdoch however.
