A four-tower Community press has been "saving our bacon" at the Vancouver Columbian following its installation last year.

The single-width Goss Community SSC supplied by ImPressions Worldwide adds an additional platform at the newspaper printer and has been in operation seven days a week.

"Our old double-wide press could not handle some of the existing and new formats that we needed," press manager Rick Pettit says. "The versatility gained has allowed us to bring more commercial printing in house."

Pettit says primary printing projects are The Olympian and the News Tribune, of which they took over production this time last year.

ImPressions president Tom Loesch describes the Columbian as "a fabulous newspaper that has been family owned for generations".

"They have experience and youth; they have double-wide and single-wide; they are driven to put ink on paper and have high expectations of themselves," he says. "It is awesome to hear about their success a year after the installation."
