SCMP editor in chief Tammy Tam is among seven new members of the World Editors Forum's advisory board.

Tam (pictured) became the first female editor-in-chief of the South China Morning Post when she succeded Xiangwei Wang in 2016. She had been a television journalist with TVB and senior vice president of ATV.

Esther Ng, chief content officer of Star, Malaysia, also joins the advisory board of the WAN-Ifra's World Editors Forum. Other new appointments are:

Jane Barrett, global editor for media news strategy, Reuters, UK;

Catarina Carvalho, editor in chief, Diário de Notícias, Global Media Group, Portugal;

Brian McGrory, editor, Boston Globe, US;

Pamella Sittoni, executive editor, Nation Media Group, Kenya; and

David Walmsley, editor in chief, Globe and Mail, Canada.

Warren Fernandez, editor of the Singapore Straits Times and current president of WEF says the distinguished editors will bring expertise and diversity as the group faces common challenges in media. "They have big shoes to fill given that some heavyweight editors are stepping down to allow for succession, but given their experience in and commitment to journalism, I have no doubt they will add much to our deliberations on the way forward for the media."
