Two of the most experienced leaders in Australia's high volume print segment are set to share their knowledge at masterclass sessions during the Printex forum series in August.
Speaking on Tuesday, August 13 are Phil Taylor - who helped build Franklin Web from a small family business to one of the country's leading catalogue printers - and Bob Lockley, who was Fairfax Media's print and logistics managing director until his retirement and its sale to Nine Entertainment last year.
The Masterclass session times are: Phil Taylor 11am, and Bob Lockley 1.45pm.
One of three brothers who - with their father - initially took roles in the rebuilding of Melbourne-based Franklin following a disastrous fire, Phil Taylor (left) built the high-volume heatset printer, managing a succession of re-equipment programmes, and finally selling the business into Ive Group in 2016.
Bob Lockley (right) started as a compositor with Cumberland Newspapers in Sydney, before joining Rural Press, progressing through it as a trusted lieutenant of chief executive Brian McCarthy, and then joining him to restructure production at Fairfax Media when the two companies were merged in 2006. His $42 million project - dubbed 'the little engines that could' by GXpress - saw production of The Age and the Sydney Morning Herald brought into former Rural print sites and the closure of Fairfax showcase print centres at Tullamarine (Melbourne) and Chullora (Sydney).
