Malaysia's Star Media has announced the appointment of advertising industry veteran Andreas Vogiatzakis as its group chief executive.

Previously chief executive of Havas Media Malaysia, he will take up his new role next month. He joined Havas in 2016 following a career which saw him progress from rural Crete, through Greece's Mathematics University to Florida, to pursue his passion for advertising.

He worked for DMB&B NY and JWT Greece before heading to Asia, and launched MediaVest Japan in 1997, later merging it with Starcom.

He moved to Taiwan as head of MindShare Group in 2003, relocating to Malaysia three years later to lead the Omnicom Media Group.

Vogiatzakis (pictured) is described as a "seasoned advertising man" and frequently sought-after speaker who conducted high-powered learning sessions at conferences, universities, media companies and the industry at large. He has been president, treasurer and council member on several industry associations and committees, as a judge on numerous award juries and as a member on various industry and university advisory boards.
