It's not the Berlin event we'd come to love, but WAN-Ifra's virtual World Printers Summit (October 27-29) still stands to be a significant meeting point for the newspaper print community.

WPF director Ingi Rafn Olafsson (pictured) acknowledges an industry "full of uncertainty and exciting challenges as well as contradictions".

The first-ever such virtual event will provide a knowledge sharing and connection platform for publishers, production and technical directors. "They can discuss requirements for newsprint, materials and other consumables with suppliers, and hear about new business opportunities and new technology," he says.

Each of the three days will have two topic themes - paper, print production, prepress, press, postpress and distribution, and new business and new technology.

The summit takes place on October 27-29 from 10am to 17.30pm with conference sessions in the morning and afternoon. Time in between provides a virtual meeting point for guests and suppliers.

Among confirmed speakers are Süddeutsche Zeitung, TwoSides, UPM, Stora Enso, and Vedacon, with topics including paper logistics and procurement; 'I love paper' campaigns; production directors' panel; AI and page production; and digital newspaper printing.
