Having already postponed its World News Media Congress to September, WAN-Ifra has now said the event will not take place this year.
"With a great deal of disappointment," the group has cancelled the 2020 Congress in Zaragoza, but still plans to hold it in the Spanish city in 2022. "Preparation by the Congress team and our Spanish partners will not be lost," said a spokesperson.
A new date has been inserted in the calendar, with next year's 2021 Congress planned for Taipei, Taiwan, from June 23-25 2021, with the support of local partner United Daily News (UDN).
The 2020 cancellation is a response to "uncertainties and precautionary travel measures" introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
