Three 'plates' from India, Malaysia and Australia are among dishes being served up to recipients of Agfa's 2016 VIP calendar.

Only 5500 copies are being printed of the lavish all-Belgian production which is supported by a cookbook and augmented reality effects.

With such a limited edition, we're not expecting to see a copy, but a five-minute video tells its production story as Agfa goes to town with design and production. Past calendars have won industry awards, and the graphic arts vendor is hopeful of another.

The 'Year of tempting plates' features 12 dishes, recipes for which were sent in by employees and then refined by a top chef, photographed and filmed.

From the Asia-pacific come Rice with nuts and pomegramate (India's aromatic Kashmiri pulao rice dish), Australia's Pavlova with seasonal fruits, and Ais kacang, Penang's ice beans dessert from Malaysia.

Prepress, of course, was handled with Agfa's systems, and the pages printed on different Igepa stocks, plus Agfa's Synaps material for the colophon.

The AR implementation a 'making-of' video play when the cover is scanned with a smartphone app, plus instructional videos for the 12 recipes.
