PANPA print finalists take the long way home

It's one of the most-travelled newspapers in Australia - trucked the 1500 km from Darwin to Alice Springs... but also one of the best-printed.

News Corp's Centralian Advocate is among single-width finalists in this year's PANPA Newspaper of the Year, while the team responsible for printing it - at News Corp's Darwin Print Centre - are one of three hoping to be named "print centre of the year".

Also vying for the print centre title are Fairfax Media's Canberra Print Centre and News Corp Australia's Townsville Print Centre.

While the journey to "The Alice" made by copies of the Centralian Advocate may be the longest, other entries reflect a trend towards remote printing: The Gladstone Observer, for example, is trucked a relatively-modest 410 kilometres from News Corp's APN Yandina print centre.

All of this year's entries come from Australia, with the exception of three usually-hard-to-beat titles from Apple Daily sites in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Technical excellence finalists are below; see this for the full list of Newspaper of the Year finalists.
