Coldset SC stock 'can compete with heatset'

UPM is pitching for the top end of the coldset web market with a new SC magazine stock.

Called "Impresse plus C", it offers a smoother, glossier finish and what the papermaker says is a unique, magazine-quality result that sets new benchmarks in coldset printing.

"Customers with coldset presses told us they needed to make better use of their capacity and expand into new areas of commercial printing, but they couldn't compete with the quality of heatset and gravure printers," says Olli Juntunen.

The product manager at Jämsä River Mills in Finland says UPM worked closely with customers, devoting two years to extensive research and development.

"The silky finish and smooth feel are exceptional."

UPM Impresse plus C is offered in three grammages: 48, 51 and 54 gsm, with the mill offering "straightforward press/post-press recommendations" for best print quality results, while claiming special press settings are "not strictly required".

The launch follows that of UPM EcoLite paper and a new eOrder service.
