Agfa has scored another regional South Australian chemistry-free installation, helping Renmark’s ‘Murray Pioneer’ to run N92-VCF plates on its existing system. The newspaper and its sister company, J.C. Irving have modified their Advantage Xs platesetters and VPP68 processors to handle the violet photopolymer plate. The processors function as 'clean-out-units', running in a closed-loop setup without needing plumbing or drainage for waste. Water is required only for rinsing rollers when the gum is renewed. Cost reductions are achieved by the reduction in water usage, reduced waste disposal and the need only to purchase gum… and processor cleaning is also simplified. The Murray Pioneer is the parent company for a group which includes six newspapers and a commercial printing business. It publishes the ‘Murray Pioneer’ (Riverland), ‘Loxton News’, ‘River News’ (Waikerie), ‘Border Times’ (Northern Mallee), ‘The Bunyip’ (Gawler, Barossa & Light) and the ‘Mid North Broadcaster’.
