Women in publishing tech are being invited to redress a gender inbalance at the upcoming Ifra World Publishing Expo/DCX.

With an international panel planned, organisers are looking for "female experts" to submit a presentation proposals.

While media makers and newspapers worldwide report about and for a diverse society, a good gender balance is "not yet a matter of course - either in storytelling or in the composition of the workforce", they say.

In a session planned for the event's first day on Tuesday, October 9 (10-11.30 am), women from the technical and digital fields will pick up the theme - based on a case study by two leaders from the New York Times - discussing strategies, benefits and difficulties of driving up the representation of women in the workplace.

Already taking part are Cindy Taibi, CIO of the New York Times, Fiona Campbell, director of digital at BBC News, Dheerja Kaur, head of product of The Skimm (focused on news for female millennials), Carolyn Wakulchik, content and SF manager at Tech Ladies (a job board and community for women in tech), Ariane Bernard, chief digital officer of Le Parisien, and Bailey Evans, technical coordinator at the New York Times.

IfraExpo/DCX organisers are inviting further presentations, for which applications are sought by September 1. Later submissions will be considered for other relevant WAN-Ifra events.
