Italian offset and digital pioneer CSQ is upgrading controls on one of its two Wifag web-offset lines.

The company - notable for its hybrid production facilities with include an HP inkjet web - is adding QI Press Controls' IDS-3D, upgrading capacity of the previously installed IRS and IDS systems.

Based in Erbusco, Centro Stampa Quotidiani was founded in 2000 to print the newspapers of its two partners, along with other contract and commercial work. It is now one of the largest Italian printing companies using coldset technology, with production around 150 million copies annually.

Its first QI systems - IRS for colour register - were installed in 2005. Managing director Dario de Cian started looking at new ways to increase consistency and reduce costs two years later, opting for IDS, then the only system capable of regulating ink and water.

Benefits claimed include halving the number of operators on its second pressline.

The new eight-camera IDS-3D system will operate alongside IRS on the four-tower OF370GTD: "We expect to achieve exactly the same results with order number three," de Cian says.
