Now the 44-year-old father of two from Zetland is in training to become a 1000-km cyclist.

The event – from April 30-May 6 – is organized by Engadine Rotary primarily to support the Father Chris Riley ‘Youth Off the Streets’ programme.

“Those who support me will be helping continue the amazing work done with kids who didn’t get a first chance,” he says.

“Youth off the Streets is a tremendous  programme that is having amazing success helping kids with the challenges of homelessness, drug  and alcohol dependency, exclusion from school, neglect and abuse.”

Good says he is not a cyclist: “I didn’t even own a road bike until four  weeks ago, and previously the longest ride I ever  completed was to and from work, about 12kms,” he says.    

“A friend of mine told me about the Sydney-to-Surfers cycle ride and for some strange reason I thought I needed a new challenge at this point in life and this sounded perfect, best of all it’s for a really good cause.”

Goos says he has made a commitment to turn himself into a 1000km cyclist in just four months.  “I have already started training very hard and am  currently riding around 300kms a week,” he says.

Good is orgainising a company pledge – he needs to personally raise $1500 to enter, and wants to reach the target of  $5000 – and is looking for a ‘top seven’ companies as sponsors, which will get their logos on flags on his bike.
