Digital platforms don’t cannibalise print editions, says WAN-Ifra Asia director Gilles Demptos… and the organisation has lined up an array of speakers next month to prove it.

“Far from cannibalising print, it has been proved in the West that
successful newspapers online also have growing circulations on print,” he says.

“Similarly, Asian newspapers
generally enjoy a healthy growth with their print products and are offering some of the world's best experiences for tackling the social media era challenges.”

Next month, Publish Asia’s 2011 Newsroom Summit (Bangkok, April 27-29) will feature some of the most innovative case histories. Speakers include:

• Bangkok Post editor-in-chief Pichai Chuensuksawadi on Post Publishing’s ambitious programme to outsource IT support for editorial, customer relations, human resources, marketing, advertising, finance and accounting;

• Chief editorial adviser Lin Neuman on a ‘Jakarta Globe’ strategy to engage young readers via social media which has led to it gaining more than 140,000 Facebook friends;

• Founding editor-in-chief of The Nation Publishing Suthichai Yoon explains how new platforms are being used to reinvent the paper’s relationship with its readers;

• Organisers are hoping Bertha Henson, associate editor of the ‘Straits Times’ in Singapore, will also speak on the paper’s award-winning education initiatives embracing new marketing, branding and editorial initiatives to engage.

Other Newsroom Summit speakers include: Grzegorz Piechota (INMA Europe), Serge Taborin (Archant UK), Frédéric Filloux (Monday Note, France/USA), Matt Jones (Gannett, USA), Julian Sambles (Telegraph Media Group, UK), Dietmar Schantin (WAN-Ifra, Germany), Paul Hamra (Independent Weekly, Australia), Alfredo Triviño (News International, UK), Stig Nordqvist (WAN-Ifra, Germany), Jeongdo Hong (JoongAng Media Network, South Korea), Dipankar Das Purkayastha (ABP, India), Aralynn McMane (WAN-Ifra, Paris), and Saleh Ali Al-Humaidan (Al Yaum Daily Media House, Saudi Arabia).

Piechota will also lead a learning workshop on ‘How to optimise editorial marketing’ on April 27.

Publish Asia also features a CEO conference, printing and advertising summits, networking events, site visits, an expo and the Asia Media Awards dinner.
