Entries are now open for the PANPA Newspaper of the Year competition – via a new website – and include three new categories.

Awards will be presented at a dinner during the Future Forum in August.

Newspaper Publishers’ Association chief executive Mark Hollands says the focus is squarely on quality journalism: “The criteria for Newspaper of the Year have been streamlined and the key focus is on journalism and ‘connection with your readers’,” he says.

Categories for 2011 are:

• Newspaper of the Year;

• Digital News Destination of the Year;

• Digital Publishing Innovation (new);

• Photography;

• Marketing;

• Technical excellence in print and production;

• Pre-production innovation;

•
Environment  (new); and

•
Occupational Health & Safety.

In addition, there is the $8000 Hegarty Scholarship, awarded to the outstanding young executive aged 35 years or under, and the inaugural Marketer of the Year awards.

Entry is now via the awards website, allowing newspapers to simply upload the relevant files for an entry. All Newspaper of the Year entries will require newspapers to be sent in for judging.
