UK-based developer PageSuite have launched what they claim is the first non-app HTML5 solution for tablet publishing.

A mobile web-kit browser is needed for tablet or smartphone, or editions can be read online via a PC.

The company says the technology enables publishers to gain control over distribution of their content without restrictive guidelines or approvals processes. For paid-for titles, the system can be integrated into an existing subscription and data collection model.

Smart navigation features include zoom, page-view tab and jump-to-page options. There are also options to download content to read offline, share edition via email, access full archive and search current and past editions. Features for iPad and iPhone include touch screen navigation, double-page view and iBooks integration.
