Singapore Press Holdings is adding two new Ferag inserting systems to ist plant for production of a 100,000-copy part edition of the daily Straits Times.

The two EasySert lines – the first in Asia – will each have an eight-hopper FlyStream precollecting section capable of selective insertion of inserts and other products into the main section.

With lap, vacuum and air systems available to open the jacket, the system will be used for a variety of new products in addition to the daily newspaper.

The installation – due to come on stream in January – has MultiStack units on each inserting line, while two additional compensating stackers are being integrated into the existing Ferag system. These will be used in preparation of products and preprints for subsequent inserting.

Programmed bundling will be under the control of the Swiss vendor’s new Navigator technology, and integrated into the existing PPM management system.
