A free ‘ideathon’ for the champions of youth engagement is planned by WAN-Ifra in Bali.
You can apply for the ‘invitation-only’ event which takes place over three days – November 24-26, but there are conditions.
Each must come as a two-person team including includes a veteran of youth engagement actions and a younger colleague who you think can help move to the next phase and you must commit to going back home with a do-able new action you can do at your level.
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis for news publisher staff with priority to past winners of a WAN-Ifra World Young Reader Prize and WAN-Ifra members.
Executive director for youth engagment and news literacy Aralynn McMane says the idea is to explore what we must do next to assure literate, civic-minded and savvy new generations for news.
“We'll talk about and act on everything from basic news literacy, to the best new kinds of ‘firsts’ we should develop and the most promising kinds of mobile-based and face-to-face participation, and how to pay for it all,” she says.
The event will also see presentation of the 2014 World Young Reader Prizes and provide an opportunity to hear how laureates did it.
