Insights into Warren Buffet's BH Media will come in a panel discussion at the upcoming World News Media Congress in Washington in June.
What does the world's most-admired investor see in news media businesses? Answering the questions will be Terry Kroeger, president and chief executive of BH Media Group, and publisher of the Omaha World-Herald, and Tom Silvestri, president and publisher of BH's Richmond Times-Dispatch, who will moderate the session.
Third member of the panel - sharing lessons from a decade of dramatic change - is Larry Kramer, president and publisher of USA Today.
WAN-Ifra's 67th World News Media Congress, 22nd World Editors Forum, 25th World Advertising Forum and inaugural World News Media Policy Forum are being held from June 1-3; details can be found here.
BH Media has grown quickly to become the ninth-largest newspaper group in the USA. A director of the NAA, Kroeger is also publisher of the flagship Omaha World-Herald, which he joined in 1985. Berkshire Hathaway bought the company in 2011, since acquiring a number of other newspapers.
At one of these, the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Tom Silvestri has come up through the ranks in a career spanning more than three decades as stringer, reporter, copy editor, business editor, deputy managing editor, division staff executive, president of a community newspaper group, publisher of a mid-size newspaper, vice president of a regional group and a Sunday columnist. He was appointed president and publisher in 2005.
Larry Kramer was appointed publisher of Gannett's USA Today - the USA's largest-circulating daily newspaper - in 2012, and has more than 40 years of media experience. He was the founder of MarketWatch and brings a unique perspective as both an entrepreneur and an experienced journalist (notably with the Washington Post and the San Francisco Examiner).
More than 1000 publishers and senior news media executives from around the world are expected in Washington for the programme, organized this year with the Newspaper Association of America. It will be the sixth occasion the Congress has been held in the USA.
The programme includes workshops - including a seminar on wearables and a masterclass on video - social events, gala dinners, lunches and networking breakfasts. An opening cocktail party at the Newseum is hosted with NAA and the Knight Foundation.
