Two newspaper executives with recent firsthand experience of newsroom transformation have been lined up to speak at WAN-Ifra's Publish Asia event in Manila next month.
One is Nic Dawes, who is leading transformation of news management at HT Media in Delhi into an 800-strong central newsroom as chief editorial and content officer. The daily newspaper has staff and editions across India.
Previously editor-in-chief at South Africa's Mail & Guardian, Dawes (pictured) has been a political and investigative reporter, the managing director of a digital creative agency, and an editor working across platforms since the late 1990s.
Managing editor of the New Zealand Herald Shayne McCurrie also presides over a newly-integrated newsroom, this time merging digital, print, radio and video platforms. A journalist for 25 years, he started as a crime reporter in Wellington and worked briefly in New York before taking up newsroom leadership roles latterly with the NZME. flagship.
Publish Asia is from March 29-31.
