World watches as NT News tasks Poulsen on crocs

The media has been having fun with the Northern Territory News' appointment of Jill Poulsen as crocodiles and UFOs reporter.

The News Corp Australia daily is famous for its attention-grabbing front pages, not a few of which have featured the crocodiles for which the region is famous.

SWUG Australia members got the lowdown on the paper's focus firsthand from editor Rachel Hancock in 2014, ahead of a visit to its Crocosaurus Cove tourist attraction. Recent non-croc examples have included 'Why I stuck a cracker up my clacker', followed - when James Packer and David Gyngell came to blows - by 'Why I've got a Packer up my clacker' and an investigation into fire services' outdated equipment, 'Why fireys can't get it up'. Not that they can resist the likes of 'Indecent-a-saltie', when a local put his testicles inside the jaws of a saltwater crocodile.

On Twitter, there has also been some job jealousy, with a journo in the US putting his hand up in case the post falls vacant (right).

Fairfax Media's Sydney Morning Herald reported the appointment this week, adding Poulsen's experience in seeing what was "quite literally an unidentified flying object" during the Christmas/New Year holiday season. With "the truth is out there for us to find", she is now tasked with finding it.
