Twitter puts Periscope highlights on replay

New features have been added to live streaming app Periscope, currently in favour for breaking news and as a UGC platform.

Twitter says rollout of changes to the viewing and discovery features has started with additional functionality available in the coming weeks.

They include web embeds, enabling broadcasts to play from anywhere a Tweet appears, live autoplay so that broadcasts in the Watch Tab and Global Feed will autoplay, and a 'replay highlights' feature which replays within the Watch Tab, giving search and profiles the option to play a reel of key moments.

Twitter says the embeds and new features will add compelling content for publishers and increase broadcast reach. Replay highlights will be available on iOS and Android "in the next few days", while autoplay will be available on Android first with iOS "coming soon".

The new Highlights feature automatically generates a short trailer for every Periscope broadcast, so that users can watch highlights of their home feed to catch up on broadcasts they missed from the previous day, as well as highlights of a profile to get a flavour for their previous broadcasts, or any search result.

Periscopes can now be embedded anywhere on the web by simply embedding the Tweet, a feature media outlets including El Pais, Le Parisien, Mashable, Mic, RT, Veja São Paulo and Washington Post are already using.

On Android, live broadcasts will autoplay in the Watch Tab and Global Feed without sound, with the option to tap for the full live experience.
