Family-owned ‘Yorke Peninsula Country Times’ in Kadina, South Australia, is following up its two-tower Community press upgrade with the installation of chemistry-free CTP. Two towers from Rural Press’s Murray Bridge print centre are being added to a single-width pressline which previously only included mono units and a tricolour UOP. The installation of an Advantage N-SA platesetter, VCF85 clean-out unit and Arkitex Essentials workflow takes the business – founded in 1865 and one of the state’s few independently-owned newspapers – from analogue to digital plate production, scoring a ‘first of kind’ installation in Australia. Installation of the workflow in advance of the platesetter gave staff time to adjust to levels of automation and integration which have transformed production of the newspaper. With the new press additions, it speeds up the printing process, provide fast turnaround to customers and improve quality. Managing editor Michael Ellis says having made the decision to expand the pressline, they needed to look at plate making. Established Agfa customers through through Graphic Arts Supplies in Adelaide, the chose to stay with the company for the benefits of after sales service and the chemical free plate system. “The transition from the manual imagesetting workflow to automated with CTP has been relatively pain free,” he says. “Now we are really looking forward to having the two Goss towers up and running, because it will be then when we will benefit from the workflow and the speed of platemaking.” • Pictured are Michael Ellis (right) and production manager Ian Shaw
