As news gets more competitive for publishers and broadcasters, Australia's Network 10 has unveiled a new news set with a nine by 2.4 metre screen, believed to be the country's largest.

The broadcaster - acquired from receivers in 2017 by US giant CBS - coincides with the rebrand of evening news programme Ten Eyewitness News as 10 News First.

The set in the atrium of its Sydney headquarters also houses Studio 10 and Sports Tonight, and will be used by The Loop, RPM and 10 Daily.

Ten posted this time-lapse video of the set's construction.

Director of news content Ross Dagan says the set provides tools to be far more dynamic and contemporary. The 36-metre wide set with its 9x2.4 metre 1.5 mm pixel screen allows presenters to transform segments instantly with higher-impact visuals and graphics. Five visual stripes include a high-resolution ticker-type screen for images or breaking news.

Sets in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth are also being rebuilt.
