India dominates 2023 INMA global awards shortlist

One in six of the 198 finalists in this year’s INMA Global Media Awards competition come from India, with Times of India publisher Bennett, Coleman & Co and Jagran Prakashan among standout entrants.

Finalists in the 2023 competition were announced today, with News Corp, Russmedia and Schibsted among companies which dominated the finalist list. Apart from India (32), top entries also came from the US (22), Sweden (19), Norway (18), Austria and Australia (14 each), and Germany (12).

In addition to regional entries, News Corp Australia scored in areas such as ‘best internal data dashboard and reports’ for Project Heartbeat, while its sister company in London was shortlisted for a new performance measurement toolkit for The Sun in the same category.

Entry themes were around health, reaching younger audiences, sports, climate change, the Ukrainian war, and the use of data to focus on user engagement.

There were a total of 775 entries from 239 news brands in 40 countries, with finalists coming from Africa, Asia/Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America. One first place, second place, and third place will be awarded for each of the 20 categories, although judges may omit awards or advise additional ones.

First place winners, regional winners, and the global ‘best In show’ will be unveiled May 26 at the Harvard Club in New York, at the culmination of the INMA World Congress of News Media (May 22-26).

INMA chief executive and executive director Earl Wilkinson said the awards continued to shine a light on the best our industry has to offer: “As past years have shown, these entries act as springboards for innovation across the globe.”

The 775 entries are live on INMA.org in the association’s ‘best practices’ archive, where finalists may be viewed publicly, with others reserved for members.
