Nobody knows how to tell a mobile story like Mario García, and the García Media founder is likely to be a major drawcard for WAN-Ifra’s upcoming Asia Media Leaders Summit.
“With mobile-first comes the necessity of mobile storytelling,” says García, currently senior adviser for news design and adjunct professor at Columbia University’s graduate school of journalism.
The method – which emphasises the seamless integration of text and visual assets in a vertical, scrolling format – invites readers to experience text, photos, videos, and audio as cohesive interwoven elements that enrich the story, adding aggregated value when working together, he says.
“Simultaneously, artificial intelligence is reshaping content creation in myriad ways. AI now assists journalists with story idea generation, interview preparation, transcription, translation, and even writing. In practical terms, this is another revolution that reshapes the writing process itself. This evolution frees human writers to focus on what truly sets their work apart: an authentic, personal voice and a distinctive style.”
García – a giant in the art of news design and content creation who has redesigned more than 750 publications in 120 countries – will talk about how news publishers can take advantage of the AI revolution in reshaping storytelling.
Set for the exciting city of Singapore from November 5-6, the Asian Media Leaders Summit boasts a current line-up of 24 speakers from the region and beyond.
Among them are Dart Centre director Amantha Perer, Capital Brief (and former Fairfax Media) chief Chris Janz, Dahlan Dahi – who heads KG Media’s Tribun Network – NPO Netherlands innovation director Ezra Eeman, Geoff Tan (now a director of Singapore’s Association of Advertising & Marketing), Innovation Media Consulting chief Juan Señor, and SPH Media deputy chief executive Yu Chuang Kuek. And there’s more, with key executives from Malawi’s Nation Publications, Belgium’s Mediahuis, the UK’s Yoof Agency Pierre Caulliez, and Singapore giant Mediacorp.
