Sixth-generation publisher of the New York Times, Arthur Gregg Sulzberger has been named as opening keynoter of next year’s World News Media Congress.
The event – WAN-Ifra’s 77th – is being held in Marseille, France, from June 1-3.
Sulzberger (45) is chairman of the New York Times Company, having worked his way through a variety of roles, from being a reporter on the Providence Journal and The Oregonian before joining the NYT. He was the author of the publisher’s 2014 Innovation Report and is credited with helping build the paper’s digital subscriber base from 800,000 then to more than 11 million. He is the sixth member of the Ochs-Sulzberger family to serve as publisher since Adolph Ochs bought the newspaper in 1896.
Sulzberger’s father, Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr spoke at the World News Media Congress in Washington in 2015, and was joined by his newly-appointed audience development specialist Alexandra MacCallum (pictured).
At the 2026 World News Media Congress, AG Sulzberger (top) will share thoughts on the crucial issues facing journalism, from press freedom to innovation, within the Congress theme of ‘rising voices, emerging risks, inspiring futures’, setting the tone for critical conversations and bold ideas.
Among other new confirmed speakers for the Congress are Guardian editor-in-chief Katharine Viner, Field Nine Group chief executive Adriana Lacy, Politico chief executive Goli Sheikholeslami, and Jazmín Acuña, co-founder and editorial director of El Surtidor.
Attractions in the host city in southern France include the Vieux Port and Panier district. More details from the website.
