Print production of Left-wing UK daily The Canary has ceased after two weeks, following what are being described as “debanking issues”.
A news website, which had been launched in 2015, continues and there are suggestions the initial print was a trial to gauge response.
Plans were that that 20,000 copies would be distributed from May 26 to 6,500 newsagents across England and Wales, with a further 5,000 copies to 1,500 additional agents two weeks later.
There are suggestions of a relaunch in coming weeks.
However, reports said it was left “with barely any funds” after its bank account was closed reportedly without explanation, and without enough money to pay staff. It was appealing for donations as a result, saying it faced “a financially precarious situation”.
