A new Koenig & Bauer web press being installed in northwest Germany is to have QIPC's latest control systems added.

The three-tower Commander CL for WE-Druck in Oldenburg ordered early last year is currently being installed with commissioning set for mid-2019.

The newspaper printer has now decided to add QI's mRC-3D cameras for colour register and for cut-off control plus IDS-3D system colour density control.

Newspaper processing head Margit Schweizer says the installation follows a commitment to increased automation. "The fact that the systems can be fully integrated into our new press and that QIPC is Koenig & Bauer's standard supplier also plays an important role," she says.

WE-Druck - which will be able to print up to 110,000 four-colour newspapers an hour with the new press - upgraded its entire mailroom four years ago, and saw the investment in a new pressline as "the next logical step".

A division of NWZ-Mediengruppe media group, WE-Druck has operated as an independent printing house since 1982. It produces more than 1.5 million newspapers copies and handles seven million supplements for daily and weekly titles including Nordwest-Zeitung and Ostfriesen-Zeitung.
