Norwegian publisher Sunnhordland Trykkeri is in the unusual positions of expanding and upgrading its press, as it takes on the work of two sites which are closing.

The publisher in the town of Leirvik on the west coast island of Stord has chosen DCOS for a press addition and upgrade which includes three Goss Community four-high towers and a Tensor H50 folder to an existing Community/Global press.

DCOS will also retrofit replacing drives and controls with new drives, controls and a control console. The shafted drive will be converted to a shaftless configuration with one motor per two towers. At the same time, DCOS will add remote inking and register motors to the current towers.

Daily production will continue while the multi-phase installation goes ahead.

Sunnhordland managing director Reidar Hystad says it is encouraging to be expanding their press and impriving its efficiency at a time when consolidation and down-scaling were more common.

"With the complexity in a project like this, keeping our production running daily during the six phases of mechanical and electrical work, we were looking for a single partner to handle this complete project for us," he says.

His opposite number at DCOS, managing director Mattias Andersson says the project showcases all their capabilities. "Our acquisition of Tensor now allows us to be heavily involved in the mechanical aspects of a project, with the removal and reinstallation of equipment, adding remote inking, along with the traditional DCOS capabilities such as drive, controls, and automatic press registration and density control equipment upgrades."

The project is due dor ompletion in April.
