A new Rhine-facing southern entrance and Hall 1 will greet Messe Düsseldorf visitors for DRUPA 2020.

Messe board members and the shareholders have approved plans for the upgrade which is part of a 636 million Euro investment between now and 2030. The new southern section will cost 140 million Euros.

Chief executive Werner Dornscheidt says the work will start next May and will be completed "as always" without subsidies.

Plans give the South Entrance a contemporary presence directly on the banks of the Rhine with a new 7800 m2 illuminated and translucent canopy. It will provide the Messe with a new face and a unique position between the Rhine and the Nordpark, integrating the existing convention centre and CCD, with plenty of space for trade fair and convention delegates before they reach their events.

At right after entry, Hall 1 has traditionally been booked by German press maker Heidelberg.
