Strong support for the upcoming Digital Media Asia in Hong Kong has followed concerns about unrest in the city.

In a letter to industry colleagues, APAC committee chair Gary Liu and WAN-Ifra chief operating officer Thomas Jacob say there is plenty of cause for optimism in what promises to be a truly compelling and thought-provoking DMA.

The region's largest industry event returns to Hong Kong from October 30-31.

"We are heartened to see another year of growth for our vibrant and robust community in Asia, and we are especially excited to bolster this year's programme with new topics around technology and digital advertising," say Lieu - who is chief executive of the South China Morning Post - and Jacob. "Despite the recent unrest in Hong Kong, we remain confident that this year's event will be a success. In the past weeks, we have consulted many stakeholders and experts, and have received strong support from our partners who desire to see the event remain as scheduled."

Based on the latest updates and on-the-ground reports, they are confident that DMA can continue as planned in Hong Kong. "We are particularly mindful of travel disruptions, but we believe that recent measures implemented will ensure safe passage to and from Hong Kong International Airport.

"Your participation at DMA as a delegate, speaker, or sponsor will be of deep and lasting value. Let us collectively spearhead innovation in our industry, promote the growth of editorial excellence, and shape the future of journalism."
