US-based web curing specialist Prime UV is working with Japanese press maker Mitsubishi in the latest of a series of trials and installations for Indian users.

Prime’s Radmax UV systems are already running at 70,000 cph at Times of India publisher Bennett, Coleman & Co

TOI is using four processors per tower on each three double-width manroland Colorman presses, in conjunction with Arets Graphics ink.

Prime executive vice president Erich Midlik says Radmax UV processors have been running with a 1475 mm web on a double-width test tower in Japan, although the system is built to accommodate webs up to 1650 mm.

He says the verdict on the inhouse Mitsubishi print tests – covering a variety of materials and conditions – has been “very good” and matched to Indian newspaper market needs. Mitsubishi used Toyo FD L and FD NP F inks and Arets’ EX40000.

Mitsubishi has a number of high-speed installations in India, most recently at Kasturi & Sons where delegates to Ifra India were shown a 70,000 cph 4x1 DiamondSpirit press at The Hindu print site near Bangalore last year.

Malayala Manorama is currently installing five of a new DiamondSpirit SA models – each of four colour towers, one mono unit and a 2:2 folder – between now and mid next year.
