The 2020 competition attracted 824 entries from 242 news brands in 44 countries. Six publishers in Australia and New Zealand accounted for 19 nominations, Asian publishers gained seven nominations (five of them for South China Morning Post), with only the US (27) and Norway (14) coming close.

Among publishers, News Corp leads the list with ten nominations (eight of them from Australia and two from the UK), while other leaders are India's Jagran and Bennett, Coleman & Co, and Nine (one for the Sydney Morning Herald and three more through its NZ subsidiary Stuff). Australian Community Media won two nominations.

Awards in the competition, which rewards innovation and excellence growing audience, brand, and revenue, will be made at the April 28 closing dinner of the 90th Annual INMA World Congress of News Media at the historic Opera Ballroom of the Intercontinental Le Grand in Paris, where the global 'best in show' will also be announced.

Established in 1937, this year's event covered 15 categories for both global/national (group 2 below) and regional/local (group 1 below). Entries were judged by a panel of 42 from 20 countries, focussing on breakthrough results, unique concepts, strong creativity, innovative thinking, and winning synergies across media platforms.
