WoodWing will move further into the business market with the acquisition of Scienta, a CMS developer with a focus on document–intensive sectors such as tax, accountancy and government.

Scienta’s cloud-based offering has been adopted by more than 2000 organisations – predominantly in the Netherlands market – typically as a digital workplace and collaboration tool to organise document workflows.

Chief executive Ross Paterson says the strategic combination will allow WoodWing to diversify into new business areas in a way that complements its existing proposition. “The combination will yield a stronger organisation, as resources and SaaS best practices can be shared on a business and technical level. Furthermore, Scienta’s dominant position in the Dutch market can be expanded through WoodWing’s global presence.”

Key management of Scienta will stay on board and will hold an equity stake in the business combination.

Launched as a provider to the graphic arts and media markets, WoodWing Software now counts Coca Cola Europe and Yamaha among its customers as well as Hearst, Forbes and Axel Springer.

WoodWing names Main Capital as a strategic investor, described as “the most specialised player in management buyouts and later-stage growth capital for acquisitions”.
