Judith Neilson Institute journalist-in-residence Bill Grueskin will talk about his research into Australia’s news media bargaining code in a webinar on March 10.

Grueskin is the Institute’s first Alan Moorehead Journalist-in-Residence, and professor of professional practice at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism in New York.

Since his arrival at JNI he has talked to “dozens of the central players” and those affected by the code to learn more about its implications here and around the world in the year since it was implemented.

The federal government has set March for a review of the code, being keenly watched by countries in Asia, North America and Europe.

The online presentation will be held on March 10 at 11 am Sydney time.

Grueskin’s CV includes senior editorial roles including executive editor at Bloomberg, overseeing efforts to train the global news staff on maximising the benefits of digital platforms; deputy managing editor of the Wall Street Journal and managing editor of WSJ.com; city editor of the Miami Herald; and founding editor of a newspaper on the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation.

He has degrees in classics from Stanford University and in international economics and US foreign policy from Johns Hopkins’ School of Advanced International Studies.
