INMA finalists aim to capture audiences, keep them close

Mar 09, 2022 at 12:42 pm by admin

INMA’s finalist list for the 2022 Global Media Awards is out, with publishers and countries vying to see who got the most.

Sixty of the 333 finalists came from India, followed by the US (31), Austria (30), New Zealand (23), UK (23), Norway (22), Germany (19) and Australia (17).

But all is not at it seems when you compare nominations by publishers. Times of India publisher Bennett, Coleman & Co (12) accounted for a fifth of India’s tally, but is eclipsed by HT Media, with 14 including six entered as Hindustan Times.

It’s the same in Australasia, where News Corp scored nine and Nine Entertainment five (including three under its The Age & the Sydney Morning Herald brands).

In New Zealand, Stuff’s Auckland and Wellington operations scored 12 nominations, against NZME’s ten (including one for the New Zealand Herald).

Globally INMA lists Bennett, Coleman & Co, Russmedia, HT Media, Media24 and Schibsted as generating the most finalist nominations.

INMA received 854 entries from 252 news brands in 46 countries, with finalists hailing from Africa, Asia/Pacific, Europe, Latin America, and North America. Entries were judged in February by 50 media experts from 24 countries.

Finalists are open for public view at inma.org.

Among entries, pandemic coverage was a consistent topic again, alongside health, climate change, and reaching out to millennials via concerts, competitions, awards, tech, music, and parenting.

Prominent was the aim of capturing audiences and keeping them close to the brand.

Winners will be announced virtually June 9.
