CherryRoad Media has nabbed another long-established masthead with the acquisition of the Cass County Star-Gazette from Delphos Herald and the Cohen family.

The newspaper of record for Beardstown and Cass County since its foundation in 1866, and regularly wins Illinois Press Association awards, most recently first places for feature writing, special sections and single page design.

CherryRoad chief executive Jeremy Gulban says with such a rich history, they look forward to continuing the paper’s legacy.

Roberta Cohen said her family had owned the Star-Gazette for many years, and she was delighted to be turning the reins over to CherryRoad Media. “The company’s strong commitment to local community journalism is a perfect fit for how my family has approached the paper’s ownership for many years.

“My father, Murray Cohen, loved the region that the Star-Gazette covers – and he particularly appreciated the history of Beardstown and how beautifully the city has preserved Abraham Lincoln’s early career as a lawyer who fought for justice.

“My sister, Jennifer Shneiderman, and I are confident that Jeremy Gulban and his experienced team will ensure that the stories of our readers and advertisers will be told for years to come.”

Delphos Herald and the Cohen family were represented by Dirks, Van Essen & April in the transaction, terms of which were not disclosed.
